Three different AI moves landed this month, and they all point the same direction — at you. This is the written companion to The FOMO Fix EP-02. Real news, a sharp take, and what to actually do about each one.

Move 1 — They killed Sora. On purpose?

OpenAI announced it’s discontinuing Sora: the web and app experiences are gone, the API shuts down on September 24, 2026, and data tied to Sora accounts gets deleted after the cutoff.

My take. Read the pattern, not just the headline. A free tool goes viral, vacuums up everyone’s prompts and habits, then disappears behind a paywall inside ChatGPT. You weren’t the customer — the free tier was the trap, and it closed once it had what it needed. That’s not a Sora problem. It’s every closed tool you don’t control.

Do this now. Export your Sora library before the deletion date. And stop building your whole pipeline on one tool that can delete you — keep a multi-tool stack (Kling, Runway, Higgsfield) so no single shutdown takes your workflow down with it.

Move 2 — YouTube wants AI. Just not yours.

YouTube’s “inauthentic content” policy (renamed from “repetitious content” in July 2025, with enforcement ramping through 2026) demonetizes mass-produced, repetitive, low-effort content — including AI narration with no human context — while the platform keeps shipping its own AI features into the same feed.

My take. They told creators to embrace AI. Creators did. Then the rules quietly moved so the cheap AI grind gets demonetized. Call it a “minor policy update” if you want; functionally, the house changed the rules after everyone placed their bets. AI-assisted is fine. AI-slop is dead.

Do this now. Be the one thing AI can’t mass-produce: a human with a point of view. Add your face, your voice, your first-hand take to anything AI helped you make. Original insight is the moat. (More on that in how to make AI videos that actually get views in 2026.)

Move 3 — Your videos train the thing that buries you.

Penske Media (Rolling Stone, Billboard, Variety) is running an antitrust case arguing Google uses publisher content to power AI Overviews — and that those AI answers cut click-throughs to the source sites by as much as 58%.

My take. This is the one that should worry creators most. Everything you ever posted for free helped train the machine that now answers your viewer before they ever reach your channel. The big publishers can measure it — and they have lawyers. Most creators just felt their reach quietly die and blamed the algorithm.

Do this now. Build what AI can’t scrape and replace: a direct audience. An email list, a community, a recognizable personality. Own your distribution so a model update can’t cut you off from your own people.

Spot the pattern

Put the three together and it’s one story: a free tool gets you hooked, the rules change once you’re all-in, and the content you gave away trains the system that takes your spot. It’s not paranoia when it’s in the policy pages and the court filings. The fix isn’t to quit AI — it’s to stop being the product: own your tools’ exits, own your originality, own your audience.

FAQ

Is Sora really gone?

The app/web experience is discontinued and the API ends Sept 24, 2026, with account data deleted after the cutoff. Export anything you want to keep now.

Can AI content still get monetized on YouTube?

Yes — if it’s original and adds human value. What gets demonetized is mass-produced, repetitive, low-effort content (including bare AI narration). Add your own insight and you’re fine.

How do AI Overviews hurt creators?

They answer the query at the top of the page using content scraped from sites, so users don’t click through. Publishers in the Penske case report click drops up to 58%.

What’s the single best defense?

An audience you own — email and community — plus a personality AI can’t clone. Distribution you control can’t be cut off by a policy change.

TL;DR

  • Sora is shutting down (API ends Sept 24, 2026) — export your library, never marry a closed tool.
  • YouTube demonetizes AI-slop while pushing its own AI — be a human with a take.
  • Your content trained the AI that now buries your reach (publishers: −58% clicks) — own your audience.
  • The pattern: free tool → you’re hooked → rules change → you feed the machine → it takes your spot.
